WOMEN'S INTEGRATED EMPOWERMENT DEVELOPMENT

Women Integrated Empowerment Development (WIED) was founded in 2003 as a community-based organization to promote skills development among local women in order to undertake income-generating activities. WIED began with only a handful of women and has expanded to more than 45 artisans.

WIED prioritizes training for unemployed women, youth, and those that are unable to complete school in the local community.

It provides a source of income for disadvantaged women to support their families, send their children to school, and contribute to savings plans. When women come to work, they also are educated about nutrition, household hygiene, and HIV/AIDS awareness. This, in turn, supports the development of more informed and healthier communities.

WIED currently makes the cow horn jewelry featured in our Kimaka collection.
